Chick/hatching question

hi! I’m currently hatching 3 bantams, and raising one that hatched yesterday. This is my very first time hatching. But I do have 3 questions.

1. So the door to the room with the incubator was left open, and my cat got in and knocked down the incubator with an already hatched and drying chick, and cracked two out of the three eggs. One’s membrane is showing, and the other is just cracked. There’s surgical tape on small cracks, and liquid bandage on the membrane. Is there anything else i would need to do?

2. So the one with the crack and medical tape, but not the membrane showing is cheeping. Is it starting to pip under the tape and I should remove it? Or does it do that in the shell and you can only hear it because of the hole?

3. So the baby that has hatched and is drying is alone. I’m not sure if the others will make it and that might become and issue. Can it stay alone? Or do I need to buy some other chicks if the others don’t make it.

Thank you!!

good morning. Yikes, glad the cat didn’t get your chicks!

1. I would have used coconut oil to keep the membrane moist rather than liquid bandage at this point. It shouldn’t be long until the others hatch if they all went into the incubator at the same time. You just don’t want the membrane to dry out and shrink wrap the chick.

2. I would remove the medical tape.

3. You will need to get one or two more chicks if the other two don’t make it. Plan for it now, ie find chicks available in your area, so that they are all close to the same age.

Good luck, I hope the other two are ok! Would love an update on how it goes.

Thank you so much! I noticed pipping last night on the other side of the shell, and woke up to this! Thank you for the advice on the egg with the membrane, that really helps.

Awe, look at that little one! So cute, I’m so happy it hatched! How is the last one coming along?

I think your liquid bandage was a great idea and would definitely try it if that happened earlier in the hatch just FYI.
