In the Brooder

First time chicken owner. We got our 9 chicks about 3 weeks ago, they are growing so fast! We are feeding them all-natural, non-medicated chick starter feed, and putting apple cider vinegar in their water. Keeping their brooder clean everyday.
For the past week, some of the chicks have had diarrhea. Some droppings are completely clear in color, some droppings are egg yolk yellow, and some are like wet brown paste. They are acting just fine, running around, just being chickies, but im concerned about the poo, i don't want it to turn into anything worse. I have given them plain yogurt and mixed it with their feed, but that makes the diarrhea worse. We have mixed silver with their ACV water, and it seems to work on some chicks, because i've noticed the regular solid oblong pellets with some of them, but, some of them still have the clear, brown or yellow diarrhea. They are inside in their brooder in our house, so i watch them constantly. How do i stop their diarrhea? How do i keep them healthy?

Thanks, -Emily.

It could be coccidia, which causes bloody or runny droppings in chicks and can lead to death. There are easy remedies for this.

I'm not sure, but it could also be the apple cider vinegar causing a problem. But like I said, I'm not sure. I hear it works well on many animals.

My chicks have wet droppings sometimes, but it shouldn't be a regular occurrence. Make sure they are warm enough, try to cut vegetables and other wet foods from the diet for the time being. If they continue to be alert, active, and feeding well then they should be fine.

Best of luck to you!

You might check out this site about chicken poo and what is normal and what you should be concerned about:

Probably don't want to view right before or after eating ; )

Thanks, it helped a bunch... alot of it is quite normal i have found out. BUT. My Jersey Giant rooster chick has bright yellow foamy poo. And i read that it is a parasite. How do i get rid of it before its too late?

Coccidia can lead to bloody droppings.

Using Apple Cider Vinegar in their water is suppose to prevent worms from living in the water, though not treat it in chickens. Corid is the treatment most commonly used for cocci.

However, I don't think that it is cocci that your chicken has if there aren't other symptoms, such as blood in the droppings.

Wet droppings can come from too much fruit, dairy products and the like. You could try cutting down on these for a little while.

Hope she's okay!

We don't give the chicks fruits or veggies, lol

Maybe when they are older.
So far the silver has cured diarrhea in 7 chicks in as little as a day and a half. The other 2 chicks have parasites i think, but are running around like chickies should. I add silver to their water everyday, twice a day. It supports their immune system, and kills viruses quickly. Silver has been a miracle for every dog, or cat we have had...and now chickies. Silver has rescued all our animals from deadly viruses so many times, its just amazing stuff. It has helped our chicks so much already.

Here are some websites that show you how to make your own Colloidal Silver. It says on both sites that it takes a while to make. True. It takes my mom 1 hour to make it, but its worthwhile. Silver is a total lifesaver for people and animals. Don't listen to anybody that tells you that Colloidal Silver is bad. It isn't.

Here are the sites:

First let me be sure you know I am a first time chicken parent with 24 three week old chicks...so zero practical experience.

This is a great thread I found on internal parasites:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/961591/parasites-in-waterfowl

Good thread about natural wormers not working:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ts-is-not-coryza-or-crd-parasites-are-rampant

External parasites that everyone first asks if you can see them, seem to be treated with Seven Dust, Ivermectin, Permethrin (poultry dust)...lots of different opinions. I searched on "parasites" and there are a lot of good threads to go through.
