Hey everyone newbie here I need some help please. I had some baby chicks hatch last week on Thursday or Friday I wasn't home and then a 3rd one this past Tuesday. The temperature here in NC hasn't been constant, and humidity seems to change but this week not so bad. I still have 5 eggs left to hatch and I noticed yesterday and today my hen is getting off for long hours and her and the 3 chicks are wanting to go outside which they havent yet but I want her to hatch the rest. Around night she will sit back on them but that's after 4 or more hours off , I've candled them and they all have movement and life but it's close to being over 28 days what should I do? Sunday is supposed to be the cut off but if there still alive because of an off weather hatch I just don't know what to do any advice appericated please and thank you :)

Welcome! Do you have an incubator? You may have to switch your eggs to it for the last couple days- your hen, already having chicks to care for and waiting 28 days, might just ditch them.

Fluffnut ,Thank you ! I do not have one. I don't mind buying one though ,it was kind of lets try this for the 1st time and see what happens.Shewent broody really badly so I let her sit and hatch. I feel so bad for the other 5 being alive and not hatching though . I may get an incubator and see like you said but I understand nature is nature. Thank you ! :)

hello @Chy19 ! welcome to BYC :frow
It is unfortunate to lose some, but if you haven't done it before, it would appear from multiple posts on here (I don't have personal experience of it) that incubating just for the last couple of days is not a walk in the park. I would follow your hen's lead - she does know what she is doing.

Thank you :jumpy yeah I dont look forward to loosing any but I understand it happens and I'm giving it a a fair shot. I agree with you if it's been this long I'll let her finish it out and see till Sunday. If nothing then well you know :( I'll probably be investing in an incubator for future hatches just in case. I have enjoyed watching my hen though. Thanks for the response :) I appericate it.

Hello, good morning everyone just an update we candled all the 5 eggs momma gave up and they were all full of life even though we were past day 25 .We made our own incubator which was great and we hatched one the next day but, we went the next day and bought a nicer incubator from the last time I was on here getting opinions. They all started pipping by day 32 they had all hatched !! I had to assist one but im so thankful they are all ok thanks everyone :celebrate
