Carmen is a seven week old chick. She is a white silkie X golden laced wyandotte (wilkie). She somehow hurt her right leg and can’t walk. 2 days ago she was just mildly limping then got progressively worse. She could not stand and laid on her side with her leg out and would cry in pain. Today, we made a makeshift chair and cut out holes for her feet (to stand) and her butt (to defecate). This was so she wouldn’t get stepped on by the other chicks and so her muscles wouldn’t deteriorate. So far, she has been eating and drinking. Not as much as she should be, but she still is. She had trouble going to bed and kept calling for the other chicks. When we went to feel her she would shiver and felt a bit cold. The chicks are almost fully feathered and get hot under a heater. They’ve been off of the heater for 2 weeks now. We’re a bit worried if this is a fever. We put a small gel heat pad on her and she fell asleep immediately. Any suggestions on how to make her body stronger? Or any suggestions on why she is cold?

I hope someone who knows more can help you. But I do think she should probably be isolated, just in case she does have something contagious. Also to keep her safe from the others jostling her about. Good luck!
