chick injury - UPDATE WITH PHOTOS

hi - I'm new to this site and to chickens - but have a query. while on holiday, one of our 5 week old chicks (think it was the buff orpington) swallowed a piece of twine it found. Our housesitter/chick sitter pulled it out as gently as possible, but ...( and here's where it all gets yukky)...pulled out it's wishbone as well. Now, I'm still on holiday, but my husband who is back says the chick is fine now, perky and everything, but still quarentined for now. Is this normal? weird? bad? and what will happen to it?

okay - so the chicken (now known as "Cord") is doing great - really spunky, fun, and fearless, but really small. About 1/2 the size of the others and here are the photos (if I can get them to work, if not, I'll try again) of her and the thing pulled out of her (which really does look like a wish bone, and completely stumped the gals at the Feed Store). the ring next to it is my wedding band, for perspective

I've been to two Worlds Fairs and three Billy Goat Milking Contests, But I've never seen the wishbone being pulled out by string that had been swallowed, How would that be possible without killing the chick?
Usually the most harm with swallowing strings is that it can get wrapped around the toungue, other than that it will eventually pass through the digestive tract

I don't think she pulled out the wishbone. The wishbone is the bony area that surrounds the lower back at the underside of the vent. There is no way you can pull it out without killing the bird.

Actually the wishbone(furcula) which is the equivalent to our collar bone is found at the front of the breast..And No theres no way this could happen..unless the string is wrapped around the toungue its best to leave it be, damage can be done to the crop, stomach and/or gizzard by pulling it out
