I have a Brahma chick that’s 4-5 days old that is completely limp but still peeping and breathing. She won’t open her eyes either. I’ve got her wrapped up in a towel on my lap with a heater in front of me. She just doesn’t move. I’ve been keeping her warm and trying to keep her as hydrated as i can. Can i do anything else for it? Should i just put her down? I lost one to this yesterday. I found her laying on her side not really breathing and opening her mouth repeatedly but very slow. Please any suggestions would be great i got them at rural king by the way

I'm so sorry to hear about your chick.

How warm are you keeping her?
How are you keeping her hydrated?

Unfortunately some chicks are too weak to survive. Since this is the second one with the same symptoms - can you post some photos of your brooder?
Are you using a heat lamp - do you have the box the bulb came in?

The only thing you can do for little ones it to try to keep them hydrated and warm.

i put the little one down last night. She got a little life back in her. She was walking around and opened her eyes, got her to drink some water. Then she just started going downhill again. She ended up the same as the other and gasping for air, so i decided it was best to put her down. I don’t have any pictures, as I’m at work. I use a 60 watt red heat bulb and a regular old clear tote for my brooder. It’s what I’ve always used, I’ve raised chicks around 10 times now. It stays about 90-91 in there depending on the temp outside. They definitely aren’t cold or hot though. I think i just got sick brahmas. It’s tough though, having a chick almost pass and to bring it back only for it to go downhill again.

You should put probiotics and electrolytes in their water to help keep the remaining chicks healthy... I find that it helps a lot. Good luck!

I'm sorry for your loss:hugs
If both were brahmas sourced from the same place, it could very well be a genetic/developmental defect. Have you contacted the breeder to ask if they have had any problems?
