The first day I used a laser temperature gauge thingy to see if it was 95 degrees in the brooder. My husband is an electrician and has this thing that you push the button, point the laser beam at something you need to know the temp and it tells you. Playing chase the laser with chicks was not intended...didn't think they would notice it...I would point it in and go to read the temp and noticed it changed real fast...look in and the dot is on one of their backs!! I would move it real quick to try to get the temp, but no luck one of them always saw where the "red bug" moved to and went to it! I have since got a thermometer for it. I had no idea chicks would be more entertaining chasing a laser than my dogs or my mom's cat!!
