My two week old wyanodotte will sit in the grass, then sort of lean over to one side like she's trying to lay down with the opposite wing lifted slightly off of her body. Any ideas on why?

Really? I've been worrying all this time for nothing? I feel really paranoid now...
Thanks so much!

hee hee ... the first time I saw that, I thought something had gotten her and broke her wing. I ran out towards her as if the devil were at my heels! Man, did I give her a FRIGHT! She jumped up, sqwacking madly and flew off in the other direction.

I'm sure she was thinking, my WORD people are so Dumb! Here I am enjoying the sun and the crazy woman flys up, starting sqwacking and flys right at me! Yikes! People!

HA!! Saw the same thing myself today...freaked out and my 8 yr old had to reassure me she was taking a dust bath!!

And if they are little chicks, it always looks kind of weird under their wings when they lift them up. I, too, thought there was a problem the first time until I realized they were all doing it. Now I know they must be happy and relaxed!

Don't feel bad, we totally freaked out the first time we saw our chickens having a dust bath. Seriously thought they were having a seizure. It cracks us up now watching them fight over dust bath holes or line up side by side sunning.

You all gave me a good laugh

The only reason I didn't panic the first time I saw one of our chicks dust/sun bathing was because I read way too many posts about here and prepared myself. I have to admit, the first time I saw it I wondered if this is really what it's supposed to look like? Now I just smile and know she's a happy chickie

The first time I saw one of my RIR hens dustbathing in the run, I thought she had broken her neck and was having a final seizure. The others were standing around watching her as she lay on one side and kicked spasmodically...then she got right up, shook off all the sand, and just went about her business...scared me to death, but they all do it now when the sun hits the sand in the run and warms it up.,
