I've seen several postings about people losing chicks - this was my first time with babies - I did months of research before embarking on the project - ordered my babies from another website( I'll be polite and not name them) - don't know which hatchery they use, but they are supposed to include a heat pak in the box. My babies arrived - 2 DOA, one died within hours - after 36 hours I had lost 6, a 7th died a day later - 1/3 of my order! They advertise a 1% loss rate! There was NO heat pak in my box, which I blame for the huge loss rate - but sounds like there has been a more widespread problem. They will refund my money, which will pay me back for the replacements I bought at TSC- glad to see others have identified my 'mystery chicks' - Tetra Tints! And some other red ones which will be interesting to see what they turn into. Thanks for all the great info and lots of chickles from other crazy chicken people! As soon as it's done, I plan to put my coop on the site!
