I've been having problems using mash in my mason jar feeders for my chicks. The mash is so fine that it compacts at the mouth of the jar and doesn't fall down into the feeder base so I have to shake the feeders the get the mash to fall. Has anyone else had this issue? I don't mind going to shake the feeders, but its a problem when I get home from work and the bases are empty and I don't know how long they've been that way. Thanks in advance for your replies!

i went to the trough type with the holes for the chicks heads they seem to like them better

I've had this problem-but I also switched to a tray feeder. My advice is to go to Southern States, and to find a plastic chick feeder. Take the top off, and fill it like that. and I think that should say:

I may just have to use a different feeder if the clogging continues. I wish I had gotten the crumbles in the first place, but now I have a 50# bag of mash to use up.

A trough type feeder works better with mash, rather than the jar making use of gravity.

You can always make use of the little jar feeder next time, and there's always a next time.

Having additional equipment is a good thing. Different feeders work better with different textures of feed.

i make my own trough feeders and gravity feeders both i can tell ya how to make them but as far as the troughs go my new ones cost me 4.99 or 5.99 at the local feed store its well worth the money and i can use mash or crumbles
