Chick mothering other chicks

Hello,
Odd thing here we have a three week old chick who is protecting and defending our 16 new three day old chicks. She’s almost acting broody. Anyone experienced this behavior before?

Odd thing here we have a three week old chick who is protecting and defending our 16 new three day old chicks. She’s almost acting broody. Anyone experienced this behavior before?

It's a little odd I know, But I don't know why I am not surprised, Maybe it's their nature to be like that. I actually saw a duck in the province taking care of a chick before.

Well we left her in with the new babies overnight and everyone is fine this morning so maybe she’s just going to be a great mother.

I had older chicks and younger chicks being raised by different hens in my flock. I had a Pullet that would act like the big sister all day and followed the little chicks and their Momma. She would still sleep with her momma and hatchmates each night and all day she was with the chicks.
