I got an order of surplus chicks from a hatchery and I’ve been steadfastly trying to determine what breeds I may have gotten based on what the hatchery has and a lot of reading online. I know I’ve got some polishes, houdans, hamburgs, and I think either leghorns or phoenixs 😂

There are a few, however, that are completely stumping me! I’ve not seen any other chicks online that look like these! So I’m turning to hopefully some people with a better eye than me to help

Yes I am holding them, the place they are in only has the brooder light and two small windows so I took them where the light was better. I can tell you they all have four toes and I can always go take a look at leg color, but I’m hoping their patterns are distinct enough someone will recognize them.

I think these black and bluish ones are the same breed different colors!

I thought this guy might also be a houdan but my other two don’t have the speckled heads and he only has four toes!

The first and last one might be Egyptian Fayoumis. Either that or Easter eggers.

The black and white one you thought might be a Houdan is probably a Lakenvelder.

The buff/white one with the little floof on its head could be a really off buff laced Polish. I can think of nothing else that might fit, unless it is a bantam.

The black one and the blue one you think may be the same breed could be Sumatras. Those will have pea combs, but probably to young to tell comb type at this age.

I’ve been wondering if they could be lakenvelder good to know that that could be the answer.

I actually think I have one Egyptian fayoumi which is the only reason I don’t think that’s what those are because it’s got a dark brown head and the chipmunk stripe down the back. Unless it’s just an odd one!

I really appreciate the ideas/thoughts, I’m excited to see them grow but I like having an idea of what to expect :)

Update for anyone curious! I’m now not only pretty sure that the first and last one are the same breed but I’m pretty sure they are Buttercups now that they’re combs are beginning to show a little better. Which is odd because Stromberg doesn’t even appear to carry Buttercups?? The buff looking one is developing a crest but still doesn’t really look anything like a the other polish chick I have 😂. And some of the black ones are developing white spots in their growing wing feathers so I’m even more stumped by them than previously!

I would get more pictures but these chicks refuse to be socialized despite my best efforts and are very good a dodging me now.

Behaviorally that matches my buttercup I had! The markings seemed a bit off but they have a very obvious comb. I was suspicious of BC but didn't hear back about what combs they had. I would be surprised if #1 was a buttercup with those markings but time will tell!

That makes sense! They were just too young at the time to tell anything about their combs and the markings definitely match but I hadn’t considered them before because like I said the place I got them from doesn’t even have them as an option to order. Makes me wonder what else I could have that aren’t on their shop pages! I’m excited to potentially have them as they seem like a cool breed, hopefully I’ve got a hen and a rooster and then it’ll be really fun haha

Update #2! I’m now convinced that the weird little buff crested guy is either going to be a Chamois or Creme Spitzhauben. Which I also didn’t think was a possibility 🤣 so now I’m just left with the little black chicks that are a mystery.
