This chick just hatched and it's sat on its bum... and can't really walk, I know it's just hatched but the rest of my chicks are okay. It's not the first one I've had like it and I'm sure it won't be the last but I hate feeling useless not been able to help it! The chick is not kept on a plastic lid either I just put him on there to take the photo!

I'd put it on something it can get better traction on. I use paper towels at 1st. I have on occasion made a small " bowl" with a handtowel to help chicks that seem to roll over or not be up on thier feet. They usually are pretty steady within 24hrs.

Newly hatched chicks have weak muscles in the side of their legs. If you have them on a smooth surface they can do the splits which is often fatal unless treated. the best way to treat it is to hobble its legs together with a bandage (check online). You have to do this as soon as possible! it usually takes only a couple hours to cure it. I've had real good luck with this method.

I'd treat it for spradle leg, very easy, all you need is a bandaid. I just had one hatch like that and I made a little bandaid hobble for him and he was better within 24 hours and I returned him to his Mama and siblings (at night).
