After a fox got our rooster and 5 hens we decided to try to hatch their last eggs.

So now we have 2 chicks (first time). One is really energetic, eats drinks runs around.. the other however sleeps continuously, even when i pick her up she doesn't move or open her eyes.

they are about 24 hours old now, and i heard that they don't need food for 48 but im still worried... she drinks if i dip her beak into water (still keeps eyes closed) but food is another matter. I'm really worried for her.. is this normal. Compared to the other chick her birth was hard, and took her nearly 4 times as long..

any info would be appreciated thanks

I worry also.. i would put some sugar in the water and give her a few drops. that works wonders for my chicks when they are weak. in fact.. a few grains of sugar in her mouth would not hurt. good luck keep her warm.. jdy

Yeah i read about the sugar water. I will try that tonight and see if she is happier tomorrow.

thanks

EDIT: i just fed her some of the top of a teaspoon, she sits up and starts opening and closing her mouth.. but i cant tell if she wants more if if she is having trouble swallowing what i gave her.... im so confused as to what to do.

ALSO: when she wakes up it is brief, and she nods her head as if trying to stay awake, each time getting lower until she is face first on the floor
