I'm going to guess this one midget wasn't meant to be for what ever reason. This is mostly likely one you helped out of the shell.

I helped about 5 out. One other died shortly after hatching

Yes I understand that. I'm experienced with hatching but I just like to help any that have some hope with survival. I might just leave them next time. Idk

Yep that's really interesting to see the difference!
It's my first time with quails so I'm still learning lots.
