I have recently been nursing a weak chick back to health. As the weakest of the bunch, the other chicks were picking on her- i moved her (the weak chick) to her own brooder. She was too weak to stand on her own and so for the past few days I have been giving her eye droppers of vitamin enriched water every 30 min along with some watered down plain yogurt and egg yolk, and she will eat if placed in front of her. Today she seems to be making progress and has begun to stand on her own again. I have noticed however that whenever she poops she starts panting. I am very new to raising chicks, is this normal? She doesn’t seem to be too hot... I have the heat lamp on one side so that she can move to the cool side when hot. Though she is still wobbly when she walks, she can move from one side to the other. She seems to be improving- she sometimes pants when standing- I think maybe she just tires herself out? There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with her legs, I checked for splayed legs and her Achilles and her legs seem to be normal, just weak. We have been holding her up and letting her legs stretch as a sort of physical therapy. Please let me know if you have experienced anything similar? She is much more alert and healthy looking today.
