So today my dog crawled under the pen i put up for my broody hens. She grabbed one of the eggs that are on day 17 ( or 18 depending if you count the day the hen starts sitting on them) and brought it inside I saw her leave it in her dog bed and walk away. i Grabbed it immediately and heard loud chirping. I’m guessing the chick knew something was up. I quickly put her back under the hen and checked about 30 mins later and listened to the eggs but heard no chirping from any Of them. I read that chicks don’t start chirping until they are ready to hatch at day 20 or 21 but it’s not even lockdown yet. Is this chick going to die because my dog shook the egg And broke the air sack? Or is it possible she will hatch early? Or is this normal?

Well I just checked the eggs again and I guess I got my answer. It’s already pipping so it must be an early Hatcher or something. but it’s extremely early.

That's probably why your dog grabbed that egg specifically. She would have heard the chirping and done some investigative work :)

I've had eggs hatch on day 18 before. Sometimes they just come early!

This is the handsome daddy. I’m pretty sure he’s an amber sexlink and the mother was a Dalmatian Easter egger. I’m so curious what these babies will look like. He also has two eggs from a barred rock and two from one or two of the Easter egger s in the pic with him.

Nono. A chick WILL talk a few days earlier, it doesnt mean its gonna be early 100% (by the way, 18 isnt to bad, some do hatch that time) its rare though
