All the guys out there like me know, they are all different.

What a difference I've noticed in two weeks since I picked them up.

Barred Rocks. (BR) - Outgoing and the first to fly up and roost on the edge of the brooder when I take the lid off. Every one of the chicks hop on the roost I put in the brooder so they can step on my hand and take a try at the big flight. They know nothing of the word "timid". Five cool chicks.

Rhode Island Reds (RIR)- Pretty much the same development and temperment of the BR's, friendly, and adventureous. One likes to perch on the edge of the brooder and hop out, not in. 3 chicks total.

Black Austrolorps - (BA) A bit timid, but a few like to perch on the edge of the brooder when the lid is opened. Two like to be agressive when the BR's fly back down off the edge. I think I may have a few Roo's in the 5 I bought.

Golden Sex links (GSL) - These may be Gold Comets, golden colored chicks with whiter wings and stripes when wings are folded. Very shy, slow to develop compared to all other breeds, and my smallest birds after two weeks. Great little flyers, but they don't want to stay long on the tp of the brooder. 3 total.

Cornish Cross - Lumps of skin. No personlaity, and a "get the heck outa my way" at the feeder attitude. The week old chicks I bout are bigger than the GSL's I got two weeks ago. They put on weight VERY FAST. 10 total. I will definitely buy a few more, maybe 10 more every two weeks, for some meat birds.

Really interesting seeing the differences in the breeds.

Yeah, we've had our for almost 2 weeks and I'm surprised at how individual they are--even within the breed.
Both my EEs are growing way faster than the others, they are also the most curious. If the lid is moved they are at the opening, standing as tall as they can, cocking their heads to one side to get a better view. Also the first to master jumping on the feeder. And they are happiest when on my hand, held slightly above the others.

The Black sex-links are the smallest but also the scrapiest. They hold their own but are also a bit more weary.

The Red sex-links are the most chill. One was the most skittish of the 6 when we first got them, the other was the first to consistently fall asleep in my hand but now they are both the equally sweet--the first to roost on an arm or on a kids leg.

Fun topic. I find pet psychology and sociology one of the most enjoyable aspects of ownership. Here's my personal observations thus far.

Dorking (DOR) - Docile and laid back attitude. Quickly accepted being handled. Mostly quite except for a pleasant little whistle when happy. Really a joy.

Golden Laced Polish (POL) - Flighty and upsets easily. Pecks at other chicks feet and chirps loudly when upset. And not a cute chirp either, but a piercing "PEEP! PEEP! PEEP! PEEP!". Lucky for her, her head puff makes up for these annoying personality quirks.

I love my Gold Sex-links, and the Black stars too for that matter. My Black Stars are really quite sweet and seem to follow the crowd. Good thing they are in good company. LOL...

My SLP(silver laced polish) are such comedians!! I love watching them run here or there, but they def. see me as the mommy and call for me if anything is wrong. They are trusting and love being near me.

My SLW(silver laced wyandottes) seem the most flighty of the bunch, but they aren't mean or aggressive. And can be held relatively easily.

Love my BRs too. They are really cool birds, I am glad my son picked them.

Yup, every one is a little different and endearing in their own unique way. That is what makes keeping chickens so much fun.

My chicks that are probably Delawares are my favorites

They run and hop into my hand when I put it in the brooder. And they're so sweet. Then the RIR female is just as awesome and RIR (probably) roo is pretty cool too. The Barred Rock roos are friendly and very curious but the Barred Rock female is very skittish and is only just starting to let me hold her without flapping and screeching like crazy. The chicks that are probably Jersey Giants are the spazziest. They run from me and will only rarely eat from my hand. They were already about 2 weeks old when I bought them so I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Then I have 2 red pullets who are just tiny babies and they don't have much of a personality yet. But they sure are fluffy!
