Cute pics! I love the cat one, it reminds of my cat Sage who I lost last July. I am so glad you showed the pics of the Barred Rocks because I have 10 of them that were suppose to be all girls and I think one is a roo. How old are yours?

please forgive my ignorance!
what is the difference between the splash ameraucana and the blue EE?
both are cute chickies!

Hilaree- The splash ameraucana is a very light blue. She (

) will eventually be a light blue with darker blue splotches all over her. She is from a blue ameraucana rooster (blue egg gene) and a blue ameraucana hen (blue egg layer). She will lay a blue egg and is a pure ameraucana.

The blue Easter Egger is actually darker than she looks in that picture. She is the offspring of a blue ameraucana rooster (blue egg gene) and a white Easter Egger hen (green egg layer). She will lay a greenish blue egg and is essentially a mutt.

The blue EE will likely look a lot like a blue ameraucana, but she'll have parts of her that don't fit the standard of perfection.
Does that help?

Momma's chickens- I think my BRs are around 4 weeks. I don't have my calendar in front of me, but I got them the second week of March and they were day olds. They came out of the straight run bin. I tried my hand at sexing them by the head spot and overall color. One roo out of eight chicks is pretty good for my first time! His comb is much pinker and bigger than the others. He is also much whiter overall. His white bands are wider than his black bands. The girls are the opposite.

humm-n-cluck- thanks! I can't wait to see how she feathers out. Some splashes are beautiful. Some are dog ugly.

I'm hoping she's a she and gorgeous. My last two splashes were cockerels and I had to rehome them. I want a splash out there!

Are you wanting to know the difference between the EE and Ameraucana, or the difference between the colors?

I would highly agree that some splashes are gorgeous, and some are just downright ugly. . . I hope I get gorgeous ones in this hatch.

Very nice chicks.

edit: Also, you sure those splashes are splashes? I've got some pretty light blue Ameraucanas that looked like that. . Splash usually starts out almost white, then not until they're about 2 months old will they show definite blue feathers peaking through.

I love them all!!! I especially love that shot of your BR's all in a row. Well of course the little roo is right in the middle! Where else would any self respecting up and coming young rooster be, but right in the middle of all of the girls!?!? Silly question!

I'm getting Ameraucana eggs from Jean in another (looks over at the calendar) two weeks, or there about....I can hardly wait!! True Ameraucanas!!

Now for everyone to please keep their fingers crossed that the majority hatch out as pullets! I WANT BLUE EGGS!!!

HA! Fred is a pacifist kitty. His only interest in the chickens is bowling. He does like to run through the middle of the flock and send them all flying. He looks distinctly guilty afterwards though, as he knows I will fuss at him. Fred makes a show of guarding the place as any self-respecting cat would, but I secretly think that Fred has signed peace treaties with the local rodent and bunny populations. He merely watches them and comments on how nasty the little beasties are. He did deposit a headless mouse on the door mat the other day, but I really think he has a henchman or two that do the dirty deed for him. I have never actually seen him chase anything.

Serrin wins the "Where's Waldo?" prize! The baby roo is smack dab in the middle.

You will LOVE your chicks/eggs from Jean. Three of my pullets are from her eggs and they are AWESOME! I hatched one roo out as well and even at half-grown (when I sold him) he was absolutely stunning. She breeds lovely birds.

Illia- I'm only guessing that the splash is a splash. It is entirely possible that she is a light blue. I went with splash because she hatched out silver white and looked a lot like the splash roos I hatched out last year. They both started this pale blue and then added darker splotches later on. I hope she's a splash as I think they are interesting critters.
