Chick piping, Its almost out now.

it's more humid outside than it is in the bator!

I took the 12 other chicks out of the bator this morning because they started picking and the chicks that are shrink-wrapped..I probably made it worst by doing that...just couldnt watch the others pick them to death! It was open for maybe 4 minutes at the most and humidity jumped right back up

If you're sure they're wrapped and pipped then spritz them with water. I found the last few eggs to hatch are more likely to need help.

OK good or bad I made the decision to remove the little chick from the foam egg cup. The little guy/gal was defiantly shrink wrapped. I wrapped the egg in a warm damp paper towel and put it back into the hatcher. I misted the hatcher just in case it lost any humidity when I quickly opened it. Please wish the little chick luck at getting out of its shell.

The damp paper towel really helped as his/her head is out of the egg. It still has a cap of egg shell but at least the thing is working on getting out.

OK its got its cap off and now its working on the bottom shell. The additional moisture really seems to have helped. I may have to help the others but they have not pipped yet. Going to keep a very close eye on any others that may be alive as I am having a shrink wrap problem. I took a picture but they are not real clear, uploading to post anyway. This is a very special chick as its the first one I have EVER hatched.

It sure is. I can't stop watching this little chick struggle to get out if its shell.

I am still not sure what caused it to be shrink wrapped as the humidity is 75% by the hydrometer inside the incubator. This one has been calibrated using the salt method. I am going to listen to the other eggs with a stethoscope to see if I can hear anything in a day or so. OR if another one pips and has trouble I will do the same thing I did with this one. I will be raising the humidity with a mister.

Hold fire with the mister. Check the egg shell when it's hatched, see how porous it is. Some shells are more porous than others and can shrink wrap although the rest of the eggs will do just fine. They just lose more humidity when pipped.

65% sounds just fine to me for hatching. It will rise when a few chicks get pipped and zipping anyway. Good luck with the rest!!!

Stethoscope is a bit overkill, you'll compromise your hatch in the time it takes you to remove them to do it or to open the bator long anough to do it, give them time.

What day are you on and how far in to that day?

I won't be doing anything for a couple days yet as this is only day 21, evening of day 21. It will be kinda easy to leave them alone as I have to work tomorrow night through Tuesday night. I will check them several times between the time I get home and have to leave again.
