Today is hatch day for 4 eggs I have incubated. The first pip is on the wrong end. I need advise. I saw it wobble. I hear no chirping yet. See no hole yet. What should I do here. I will not follow my usual "let the stong survive" with these eggs. So advice is really appreciated. These 4 eggs are from a rooster that recently died defending his girls. Momma hen is my only hen I had no offspring from this roo and the 2 were my only ees. Please offer some instruction.

Thank you. I have read the article several times. Will probably read several more times.:) It is very informative. What I dont see in it is how to tell if they have pipped through the membrane. Should I take that tiny bit of shell off so I can see and when? Do you know? I don't know when it pipped. Was like this this when I woke up. Maybe a few hours, maybe lastnight. Currently I'm just waiting. I have not intervened or opened the incubator.

How's it going?

It's really hard to know which way to go with this sort of thing. If you open the bator, then you risk losing humidity and shrink wrapping the other eggs that are still in there.

Can you tell if there's movement, peeping, anything? I've had chicks pip at the wrong end and they made it out just fine.
I'm not a fan of assisted hatching at all, I know a lot of people do and it goes well for them, but for me it's 50/50 so I generally don't.

Thank you for replying. I'm not a huge fan of helping either. But I went ahead and slightly opened the bator just enough, added a little sponge, took of a small section of shell off, found the beak, poked a little hole where no veins were and the chick started chirping. Put a little coconut oil on the membrane and quickly put it back in the bator. Temp only went down .5 degree and humidity stayed at 65. Will see tomorrow. She is still chirping but no progress yet. :fl

:celebrateThe little stinker went from no progress to out and flopping around in a hour. I checked her/him before bed. I wasn't even asleep yet when my son came in telling me the chick was out. I couldn't believe it. No zipping at all. Just popped open that shell and started dancing.:wee Crazy. I'll post a picture of our little backwards chick tomorrow.

Now hopefully at least 1 more of the 3 left make it. No piping at all. The one that was wiggling and chirping inside has since quit moving and chirping. Let's see what tomorrow brings.:fl

Oh that's good news!

None of the others made it to pip. The 1 that was chirping yesterday died before pipping outer shell. So it's 1 little chick. I knew all were a long shot as none of her eggs in the past have ever pipped the shell. Most fully developed but her shells are hard as a rock or her offspring are weak. But the 1 that survived is a little fighter and hopefully healthy.

Sweet Baby!❤️

I hope she thrives! Maybe you can find her some company, so she has a couple of buddies to grow up with.
