Hi, I haven’t had chicks for about 3 years so have forgotten what I used to know. I’m picking up 3 day olds next week, and was going to pick up their food and other supplies tomorrow.

TSC has both Chick Starter 24% and starter/grower 20%. What’s best for the first 4 weeks or so? I can’t remember the difference!

All I know and can tell you is that:
1. These formulations are created by/partially for big ag. interests with big ag. interests in mind (raising for meat, for eggs until too old, etc)
2. 24% protein vs 20% protein isn't a huge difference when considering that the other ingredients are all identical;
and 3. I have used both with no ill effects or problems.
In short, either will work just fine, in my opinion :).
I suppose in the long run, 24% protein could possibly encourage largeness/fatness if kept on it too long?
But I'm not sure.

I have used the TSC 24% and other brands of 18-20% and couldn't tell any difference but that Dumor stuff stunk to high heaven. Haven't used it since then and the chicks thanked me.

Got mine on the Dumo 24% because it was on sale. They're very healthy and feathering in fast. Only thing is both my dogs want to eat the chick feed so I have to keep it locked up in the laundry room lol.
