chick starter

my chicks are 5 months old. i also have 2 turkeys 3months old and two peachick that are a little over a month old...i am still feeding all of them chick starter...can you tell me if this is ok or should i be feeding the older chickens laying pellets...i really do not know how to divide the food...any suggestions....thanks

Great question!! I would start introducing your chicks and turks to cracked corn..mix it half and half then slowly take the starter away. The chicks are old enough to be off of the starter..but do it slow. It is ok to feed your older hens laying pellets..my sis-n-law did at this age and they did fine... I know someone that switched their (turkeys) food to quick and she lost some. I don't know anything about a peachick..I have a ring tail pheasant and was told to leave him on chick starter until 9 months then switch him to sweet feed..like for horses..we are going to get some peacocks on the spring. i just bought 50 lbs of laying pellets that i will mix with the chick starter so that the turkey and peachick can continue to have high protien i have white silkies so i am reluckdent to give corn i do not want them to turn yellow.....but down here i can not find scratch for treats so i am imprivising. thanks ronnie:cd:jumpy
