I had some chicks shipped in that were already about 4-5 days old. They already had good wing growth started, and were crowded in the box. They are now 1 week old. One of my black Orps has obviously broken both wings at the first joint from the tip. She has no control of them, they flap over from her body and just hang upside down. It is more noticeable the older she gets. My questions are:
Will this get any better?
Is there anything I can do to fix them?
Will they cause her problems as she matures?
Would I be better off snipping them off at the first joint while she is very young?
I do my own vet care on my poultry as well as my goats and horses, and do have medical training. No vets in my area really know anything about goats and chickens. If snipping them off while she is so young is the best thing, I can cauterize them with a silver nitrate stick if they happen to bleed much. I dock puppy tails at work and we use the sticks to cauterize after we are done.
Anyway, advice would be welcome because I have never dealt with a broken wing, especially on one so little.
Thanks in advance....
