Chick Treats

Personally, I’d stick to the straight chick feed and fresh clean water for many months before giving them any idea that “chicken junk food” even exists.

What they need most at the stage their in is balanced nutrition for proper growth and development.

I've been giving mine the dehydrated meal works you buy for feeding bluebirds along with their chick feed. Do I need to give grit as well because of the mealworms?

No matter when you decide to start giving treats, you must always keep in mind that their feed should always be their primary source of nutrition. The best time to give treats is mid-morning, after they have had plenty of time to fill up on their feed.

For my baby chicks as treats I mix a little of their food with the yolk in a hard boiled egg. Its a good source of protein and they’re still eating their regalia feed. As special treats I will do a little bit of scrambled up egg. You don’t need grit with these two treats because they’re very soft and easy to digest.
