Ever since I got my Silkie chicks "Tony" has had a bald spot on his head. I was just wondering if anyone would know how this could have happened? Like did it happen in the egg or ?

Very cute.....I can't see the bald spot on the chick, but I'm predicting that maybe the bald spot was caused during hatching.....Is the spot red or irritated looking? If it is, the other chicks might be attracted to the bald spot and might peck it. But if the skin doesn't look bad, then I wouldn't worry about it. I'll bet the feathers will come in shortly.....

Not to be daft, but are you talking about the chick's ear? They do normally have a bit less down over the ear.

It's the bit of grey right above his eye. That pic doesn't show it very well, sorry about that. The skin looks fine, no problems so far with any picking, he's actually one of the cockiest ones of the bunch LOL! Anyway, it was just something I was wondering about, how it happened and all, since I'm a new chickie owner. I figured if it was some sort of blunt trauma he wouldn't have survived but I don't know. Thanks for your input.

OH, I see now! That's dark skin showing through, not a spot of darker down.

How odd! Maybe he did stick to the egg a bit and pulled that part of his fluff off. It will be interesting to see if it feathers in normally.
