We phoned our local co op store to inquire about chicks and we let them know that we were thinking about ordering some dual purpose birds for meat and next thing you know we got a call 4 days later that our chicks were in. We were suprised to say the least,,,,we were out of town and the chicks went home with a local farmer. We rushed to buy the heat lamp and things we needed (weve never had chicks) anyway, while in her care her dogs attacked the chicks, we lost one and this one in the photo has missing fur and I think is swollen. Is there any advice of signs to look for or medication we can put on to prevent infection?

I will try to get a better photo, my camera isnt very good.

If the chicks skin is broken, clean the wound as best you can and apply neosporin. Provide the chick with poultry nutri drench if possible or maybe some plain yogurt in its feed, making a mash.
