Chick with attached "something"?

This isnt his egg yoke, right? It looks like, or it did when it was wet, a mass of veins. Is this his inner membrane still attached to his belly botton? He is very small and very tired. He hatched in the middle of the night and was a mess. I left him in the incubator until a little while ago hoping it would dry up but it didnt change at all except for really dry up. Poor baby

It looks as if it's intestines have formed outside the abdominal cavity. If they continue to dry up it will die for sure. With human babies...they are immediately taken to surgery to have it replaced in the cavity and sewn up.
My condolences for this situation.

My baby is still here. That mass is completely dried now but still attached to her. She was born last night at 12 AM and its now 9:15 PM the next day. Almost 24 hours old. I got her to drink water, she seeks out the light, and moves around the brooder. If this were her intestines would she be dead by now? Im just trying to give my kids some answers. Her name is Hope.

It does not look good for her. I'm sorry I don't see how she could make it much longer with her insides on the outside.

Has she eaten anything? I can't believe she's still alive! Good luck to you, I know it's hard to let go of a life, especially if there are kids involved. You never know, maybe (hopefully) she'll make it...

I have been looking for pictures of chicks that grew with their intestines outside their bodies and I cant find any. Not something I *want* to be looking for

I really dont think thats what this is. This cant be her inner membrane all balled up and still attached to her umbilical cord?

I don't think that's the yolk. The membrane attaches to their belly buttons, and every once and a while it doesn't tear off like it should. I've had that happen before, never that severe, but I have seen it. I think it's caused by high humidity. The membrane is so wet that it slides off the shell and doesn't break off the chick. Let it dry out completely and it will eventually fall off. If he survives 3 days, he should be ok.

Those aren't her organs. I've seen chicks with their organs on the outside. Trust me, it's as obvious as day and night and a terrible thing to see.

There would be a large hole on her abdomen if that was the case. And as soon as the organs dry out, assuming it hadn't bled to death by then, it would die. I truely think it's just membrane and veins.

maybe it's a twin that was still attached to the yolk, my splash roo had a twin that was a ball of nasty in the bottom of the shell.
