Hi guys so two days ago we picked up some chicks to add to our silkies, and as it was dark we didn't realize till we got home that one showed signs of an eye issue, it is only one eye and shows no signs of spreading. I work all day and in that time soft soaks have not prevented it worsening. Now it's dried and crusted and watery and I need some way to actually treat it other than soaking cause that does zilch obviously. I'm not spending 30$ on a tiny thing of terramycin for a single bird either as it's not life threatening and I've literally had the bird two days. I need anything under! 30$ that will at least somewhat effectively treat the infection in the chicks eye, I don't care if it's all natural or what, just know in not spending thirty dollars on a one-time use item. Never in two decades dealt with an eye infection in a chicken of any age so I'm doubtful I'll need to repeat the process for a very long time.

Eye infections can be from peck wounds or from the start of a respiratory disease, such as MG or coryza. The Terramycin eye ointment is the only eye ointment that you can get over the counter. I have used a new tube of plain Triple Antibiotic Ointment (neosporin) on my chicken’s eye injury, but ideally, an eye ointment is best. If you use the Triple Antibiotic Ointment use it 2-3 times daily after cleaning or flushing the eye.

Since I am so paranoid about getting chicks from other people and possibly bringing in a chronic disease, I would consider taking the chick back.

Thanks I think I have a tube of triple antibiotic already, and I found some flush so I'll try that and if she improves I may get some terramycin later. We got her while we were out of town on a day trip so taking her back at this point is more trouble than its worth, especially since they were the last of their batch, I'd rather handle it and face the outcome than reject a single chick and deliver it only to have it culled anyways
