Please has anyone got any advice as one of my 3 week old chicks seems to have problems with her legs. The other 3 are all fine but this one's legs seem to not extend like the others. Her leg joints seem to go the wrong way. She does sit down but seems to struggle with this. She crosses her feet as she walks and treads on herself constantly. She is also very unsteady and I fear she may have sight problems too. Please help

Hate to tell you this I had ordered 30 turkeys to raise and 2 of them actually had the same issue its a deformity like the kneecaps were backwards and sad to say there is nothing you can do as the bird gets heavier they will break or the bird will just start laying around so I think the humane thing to do is well you know but I'm just a chicken farmer of 9 years I'm no vet so stay tuned on here there is plenty of useful knowledge to be heard on this site maybe I'm wrong I'm just speaking on experience sorry

You may want to research varus/valgus deformity in poultry, to see if that looks like what you are seeing. It may be from a mineral deficiency in the parent stock.

thanks for that I was hoping she might be able to just muddle through and get used to her wonky legs. She also squawks a lot when she is with the other birds but once she is separated quietens down. Im not sure if they distress her.

I would give her a chance to get along on her legs as long as she is thriving, and seems happy. Hopefully, she won't sucfer from any tendon issues.
