Chick with injured eye

It does appear to have a possible abrasion? Im assuming a pecking injury just to the left if you can see it. Today is the first day I’ve been able to see the iris at all. I wouldn’t know how to tell if it’s viable otherwise.

I did not realize if it was, I thought it was just the injury site. Oh dear. She’s so tiny! I’m supposed to just squeeze it out? 😥

Could the corner be the site of the pecking, or does it look like pus? I would continue the Terramycin, but the Neopolydex might be better with the steroid plus antibiotic. If you have a regular vet, I would try to get some new antibiotic drops or ointment. Sometimes reusing a tube from another animal there might be some contamination.

It is so hard for me to tell without experience. I believe it looks grey, more so than white. Pretty circular. I don’t want to go pushing around on it for fear of causing more inflammation..I could try gently massaging it I suppose? Would it require a bit of force to remove if it were puss? Also - I did actually open a new tube of Neopolydex for the chick but then switched to the terramycin thinking it was more appropriate for her - I will go back to the NPD and give that a try again. I appreciate you help! I’ll take any and all advice. Trying my best to help this little one.

Yes, you could try a gentle massage or even a warm compress to see if something like pus appears.
Chicken pus is more of a semi-solid, so it would take pressure to remove it. Try massage and compress and see how that goes.
It’s out!! I cannot believe it. What relief she must feel.. it definitely was puss. The warm compress and massage helped immensely. I gave her a good rest in between sessions today to lessen the stress of it all.. then used a small sterile tool to gently work the area and it finally came out with a little force. I immediately flushed with more sterile saline and applied the medication.. She rested for awhile afterwards as expected but she is up and at it now - eye open for the first time in almost a week! I am elated. Thank you so much for your help and encouragement. Add this to the list of things I never thought I’d be doing - and never hope to do again - but I’m thankful for the courage to do it today. She looks so much better already. Just wanted to update! Maybe this will help someone down the road as well.

Oh! How long do you think I should continue the rinses/medication? A week or so? Im not sure of the protocol..

Thank you again and again
