I have a chick that I just hatched on Friday. He has what looks to be possibly his intestines hanging out of his little behind. I have never had this before and am unsure what to do, of if there even is anything that I can do. It is still soft tissue, but it is getting hard now. I am watching him, but still don't know if he is able to poo. He is eating and drinking. Below is a picture of this. Any ideas? advice? suggestions?

Thanks !!

I'm no expert on this issue, but I know when older chickens have a prolapse, you're supposed to gently push it back in. Do this soon, as the tissues are drying out.

i had a chick hatch but got stuck to a part of an egg shell and it pulled its intestines out - a lot. i rushed it to a vet but they could not do anything for it and put it to sleep. Anyhow, here is my suggestion - if the intestines were soft and damp, pushing them back in might be feasible. If they are drying up, you may want to just let them dry up completely. i have had chicks with some intestines out that dried up and i was able to snip them after it was clear there was no more blood supply.

It almost looks like you have a section of intestine, not the end of it. If that is the case, it may end up pooping inside somewhere. i don't know. It's a tough call. Were it me, i would wait a couple days and see if the chick can poo and if that section dries up and can be snipped. But, i would say the prognosis is guarded. You may end up having to put the little one down. i'm so sorry! It's so hard having to deal with issues like this.
