Chick with lump died......

A few days age I got some BO chicks from the feed store. Yesterday morning I found a chick being real still with it's head down. I picked it up and noticed a lump on it's stomach. It was dark red and sort of in between hard and soft. I tried to hand water it water mixed with teramicyn and it perked up a little. I took it to the feed store to see if they knew what it could have been one said it looked like a hernia the other said it looked like an abcess where maby a splinter from the shavings might have poked it. It died that afternoon, any thoughts of what it might have been? how I could have prevented it or treated it?

Might help if there was a pic, was it right on the belly? Like behind the keel? Maybe it had an infected yolk sac and died because of it. Not much you could have done really if it was that.
