Chick with pasty butt, bum now hard and veru lethargic. Help!!!

Hi all,
This chick was a sickly one from hatch. It's been a week or so since hatch and she can't eat or drink alone so we have to force feed her. We fed her yesterday in the evening around 6-7pm and left her in the brooder. It is now 10am the next day and she got a severely clogged vent from her dried droppings. She is lethargic, keeps falling over and gasping for air but no attempt to pass anything. I cleant her vent and gave her some electrolyte water. Her bum was very hard. I helped her expel some of the droppings but her bum is still quite hard. Please help!!

You can feed little pieces of chilled coconut oil to help with the constipation. A bit of sand will help too.
Your chick needs lots of fluids, so make it swallow at least 5-6 drops of water or even better oregano+thyme+fennel+aniseed tea every hour until it drinks on its own.

Update: the chick died around an hour after I made the post. It went almost a day without pooping, I wasn't surprised. Poor chick

I'm really sorry. It's hard when you lose one Often when they are sickly right from the get go they don't make it. You did the best you could, with what you had.

I've had hens for many years and am still learning. There is really good information on reputable websites that I find very helpful when I'm stuck for knowing what's going wrong and/or what to do about it. All we can do is our best, and keep learning. Chin up
