Hi, i'm new here!
i have just brought home from my aunt's farm a little chick with a splayed leg. I am sure there are other posts on this but need help now. She was born on Sunday and has been drinking water, but hasn't eaten yet. She doesn't seem weak, as she cheeps loudly and and stands as best she can. I have put a lacky band around her legs so far, but what should I use long term? I am most worried about the eating, she is nearly 3 days old and hasn't eaten yet. I am an animal freak and really want her to survive, any tips to keep her healthy and well?
thanks,
Joy

Hi! Congrats on the new baby!

If she was hatched 3 days ago she may start eating soon, as they have a yolk supply that keeps them fed for a few days. Just pick at the food with your hand like a mama chicken would to show her how it's done. Shell get the hang of it.

If you keep her hobbled so that her legs stay perpendicularly under her when she stands and sits, she should heal Right up in a few days. i splint/hobble mine right away when I notice they are splay legged, usually within 24 hours of hatching, and they are fixed within 24 hours. Being that she's a little older, I think it may just take a day or two longer.

Just watch her around the water dish. I have lost a hobbled chick that fell in and drowned.

Hope she does well for you!

thanks so much, but unfortunately for some unknown reason
she passed away today:hit. She was warm but not too warm and had been at her happiest just before then. I went to the shops for no more than half an hour, yet when i got home i had lost her. Am so sad, have buried her in my garden and surrounded it by pebbles.
