I finally decided to open my bator just a bit early due to the fact that there was one little one whose leg went through the bottom (i know it could mean that nothing else zips... there was a pip but i didn't see it until after the bator had opened). don't know how long it had been there but when i pulled it out the leg had been twisted. it seems to be slightly underdeveloped on the left side (the side with a twisted leg)... i've heard that spraddle leg can be worked with... It's leg seems to be turned almost upside down... is there anything we can do for this baby who in all other respects seems to be bright and ready to enter the world? Or should we make the end swift?...

please let me know asap.

thanks..

ETA: I'd give it a day before culling. They can get pretty cramped in the egg and many of these things resolve themselves after a day or so.

I know that spraddle leg can be worked with but I am new to chicken keeping.

I think the people that DO know are going to want a picture to see if it is spraddle leg or something else. The leg upside down thing kind of sounds like it might be something else but maybe it just got twisted a little in the bator. I think the experts will also want to know it can move around independently, if it is eating and drinking normally. Etc. I hope your chick does well, this has got to be anxiety provoking.

yeah it looks more like it was messed up at the 'knee' joint... and i'm concerned that it looks like the bent leg wing is also the smaller one... my hubby won't put it down just yet... so i don't know if it can stand, drink, etc... the chick also is very noisy every time i try to take it away from him...
