I have a chick that is one day old today she won't straight her leg out. She also does not seem interested in water or food and can't run around with the others. We have her in the bator instead of with her mom cuz her mom won't stay on her and keep her warm. It looks like a slipped tendon happened in the shell but she hatched on her own. We have tried pulling the leg straight last night but it was real red and swollen. This morning the swelling looks to have gone down and it is not as red. I don't know what to do I don't want to cull her. How long should I work with the egg and what is a good temp for the bator

It doesn't look super terrible. I would give it time. If you can keep her seperate I would do that. Good luck!

If it is a slipped tendon the hock joint would be larger than the normal one, and normally they don't hatch with that problem. Looks like it was injured inside the egg, maybe rubbed too much while hatching, even though I've never known that could happen. It may not want to keep the leg straight because it's sore. I also, would give it time. Keep us posted.

The knee is no longer swollen it's still red but not as bad it almost looks like the knee is deformed and potentially it looks like her left hip is further back than her right hip I were working with her to see if we can get her up and mobile I'll let you know in a couple days

It looks like it is not just the knee but the hip as well.I still don't know how this chicken hatched yourself out of the egg my mothers giving her till Saturday and then if she's not better by Saturday we're going to have to cull her
