I have a 5 day old chick that has twisted feet so he kind of walks on his knees. He's eating and drinking fine and moves around good though this weekend when everyone else goes to the coop I think he's going to stay in the brooder. I'm wondering what are the odds of him surviving like this and is there any way to try and correct them? I think as he gets bigger and heavier he's going to develop pressure sores on his legs.

In newly hatched chicks crooked toes may be straightened while bones are still soft. Use first aid tape or a band aid cut to size and wrapped around each toe to hold them in normal position. If the toes are going to straighten out, they should do so within a day or two as the bones harden. Best of luck!

About halfway down the page on this link you can find a pic of a band-aid "boot" to straighten her toes. I did this with 2 of my chicks and it totally worked! I used the sticky ends of a waterproof band-aid to sandwich the chicks foot in. It helps to have help when you are doing it, and a pair of tweezers to place their toes on the band-aid straight. It's easy, and it works. May want to add some vitamins to the water for a few days as well, make sure they are without iron.
