Chick without hen???

I went out late last night and I found a chick that was just wandering around in a box that had alot of eggs in it. NEXT to the box the was a broody hen that wasnt sitting there when i got up this morning. The egg shell is in the box and the chick doesnt look very old. How is this possible??

Broody hen went back to the wrong box, possibly. She may have just left the nest when you found the chick.

Hope you put her back on the nest. Its been so warm they may still be viable.

The hen is off both nests now. shes just running around with the other hens.
