Chicken acting crazy and violent.

Hey guys my usually sweet, calm, and passive hen is acting crazy. She gave one of my naked necks a cut on her neck. (She’s fine ) She’s also terrorizing the other chickens. Is there something that’s like the equivalent of rabies to birds? She’s acting strange. Please help. I think it might be the fumes form the neighbors fumigating their house next door. She’s kind of acting like an aggressive rooster. Thanks in advance!

Is this a younger chicken...it could be a rooster. Once that testosterone kicks in I have had young cockerels chase hens around the coop when they didn't comply. Hear any crowing?

How old is she? Has she been laying eggs? Is it extremely noisy there? Can you bring her inside your house in a dog crate with food and water to see if she calms down? Are the fumes going to affect your other chickens? I would make sure that no one is wearing any scary clothing that might have frightened her.

IMHO -
She needs to be separated from the group. Put her someplace quiet. Bathroom , crate, ...even a big cardboard box with air holes if you have to.

Can you smell the “fumes” NOW?

If you can smell fumes, your birds may be being poisoned. Do you know what they are fumigating for?
Can you contact them and find out what chemical was/is being used?

I would throw away any food that may have been exposed to drift on the air today, clean their feeder and waterer and provide fresh water.

If you don’t have a lot of chickens, move them indoors if you can or into a garage or other temporary shelter with good ventilation as far from the neighbors house as possible. For the night or until things settle down and you get the fumes figured out.

She is about 40 weeks. I already put her in a separate crate I used for when they were chicks. She seems calm and kind of confused. I’m trying to see where or how a I can move them in my house. I think the fumes might be getting to her. I don’t know. I also can’t smell anything. I don’t know what type of chemicals they’re using. I most likely can’t move them. So, should I keep them inside the coop?

She’s not a rooster. She lays eggs. Although I saw her biting the other hens like a rooster.

Absolutely! I would definitely keep the rest in the coop until your neighbor is finished spraying chemicals.

There’s vents in th coop. So, do you think that it will just be useless if I keep them in there?
