I have an 8 month old Barred Rock.
She's acting off today. Isolating herself. Puffed up. Sleepy. Not energetic. Have not seen her drink today. She has eaten a boiled egg I fed her to see if that would help.
She also has this poop going on. I cant find anything that looks similar. Not sure if its normal or not.
She did lay an egg yesterday and it was larger than her normal but looked fine otherwise. No mites. Havent seen worms. No blood. Rest of the flock is fine.
She and the flock fully free range from 9am-6pm when the sun goes down. I feed them layer pellets.
I make sure waters are clean.
Her crop is normal. Not swollen, not hard, etc. Her comb is bright red.
The strange things is that she also did this a couple times over the summer. We assumed it was severe heat stress and just kept her inside overnight and she was back to normal the next day like nothing happened. I assumed since its cooled down a lot that she would be fine but here she is, acting off and having this type of poo so asking if maybe there is something biologically wrong that's causing this to happen every couple months it seems?
She lays every single day and has slowed down recently only laying every 3-4 days but I assumed it was because of the lower daylight hours as the other girls are slowing as well. I went from 10 eggs a day to 5-7. Occasionally 8 since daylight savings.
Just hoping someone has advice for my girl. She's very special to us. I dont give table scraps often since they free range. Possible she couldve gotten into something she shouldnt have.
I unfortunately dont have any vets here who will see her. Last time she did this, in September I called every farm vet and they all specifically said they do not see chickens so unfortunately its just me and my husband when things like this happens. Thank you
