chicken addiction

my gosh you guys were right these chickens are soooooooooooooo addictive and i can not wait till we get started on the coop and we get the chickes in feb

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i really cant wait till i get my four chicks any suggestions on where to buy a chick friendly feeder and drinker?

can also people post pics of these particular breeds umm

Oh yeah, you can get feeders and waterers at any feed store or a farm and ranch store like Tractor Supply Company, Atwoods, or Orschlands.

Here's a chick friendly waterer:

A pet rabbit/guineapig/rat water bottle. You know the ones with the angled metal tube that has a little metal bb in the end? Someone on here suggested it. You can aso get the tips by themselves at Tractor Supply company for $4.50, to attach to a soda bottle.

I tried using one with my most recent chicks. It's just as easy to teach them to stick their beak in the metal tube, as to teach them to stick their beak in a dish of water! And its so clean!! No more pine shavings and poop in their water. I found it absolutely wonderful, and highly recommend it! I would suggest no smaller than 12 oz, or you will need to fill it 3 times a day very soon.

No risk of them drowning in it either.

do you need to have a chick friendly feeder?

How do I tell Rhode Island Reds from New Hampshire Reds? I have some light orange hens who had white wing tips when young that are starting to lay early. And I have some dark glossy red hens with dark green/black tail feathers. I've googled pictures of both and I'm still confused.

Thanks! I'm liking the New Hampshires. They are very gentle and start earlier than the others. Nice body size too.
