Is there a way to estimate an adult chickens age? The reason we ask is because we adopted three chickens from a friend last year and one we don't ever think laid eggs in hi The reason we ask is because we adopted three chickens from a friend last year and one we don't ever think laid eggs and is showing signs of being old we think

Older chickens generally get thicker legs, not all but most do. It can be easy to tell younger birds like a year old from older birds, but the time in between you can't always judge.

We know she has at least two years old. Her legs look a little thicker than the other adult birds. The reason we think she is older is because last year she was very active and was definitely top chIckes but this year she has been less dominant and very seclusive finding places to rest a lot. She doesn't appear to be sick but more if you will , old . She is also started making stranger noises.

Currently she has been laying here for about an hour and hanging out with the deer

Nice deer. She sound like she might not be feeling well. Unfortunately there's not much you can do but hope she improves. Another thought is she's going broody, which will cause them to hunker down tight and make screeching noises when disturbed.
