OK... here goes my embarrassing "I can't believe I'm asking this" question....
Do chickens have 1 "exit" for everything... or 2, one for waste and one for eggs... ??

Same exit, but the egg has a different route getting there and the skin stretches out to prevent contamination of the egg. Am I right? Can someone else clarify this better?

I have a question for anyone who can help me......This is off topic from this thread .... but can anyone tell me why my chickens earlobes are puffy and look like they are filled with fluid when they usually look like a water balloon without water in them????

I always pick up my chickens and kind of pet them on the head and waddle and I noticed this today????

You need to go start a thread in Emergencies for this one, please.

The oviduct and the intestines come to the same opening, the cloaca. When one is in use, the other closes off. In older and some high production hens, like sex links, the cloaca can become "loose" and feces can be sucked back into the oviduct, hence causing an ecoli infection called salpingitis, which can kill the hen. Yeah, more than you wanted to know, right? But, the way it is supposed to work is like a train being diverted to a different track in the tunnel, if you get what I'm saying.
