Honestly, never paid much attention to the posts here with mixing chickens and ducks. But, my hubby, who is a police officer, came home the other day and said that the ACO where he works picked up a chicken in the local Walmart parking lot!
Ok, do not know ANYTHING about chickens, but now I think I want this one. Have questions tho.
Can I put it in with my 4 ducks? Can a lone chicken live happily with the ducks?
Does the sex matter, what if it is a rooster, I have a drake, problem?
Not sure if this is a good idea, but I feel sorry for the thing and well, I am a sucker for needy animals!
Hoping someone with chickens takes it, but if they don't............................

It would probably be better off with you than where it is/will end up. Ducks and chickens can be ok together but it can be hard. Ducks are messy.
How old is the chicken? Young enough and it may not be a problem. My ducks and chickens do not really like one another, they tolerate (sometimes) one another. Sort of like how the Crips and Bloods tolerate one another.
I am in the same boat as you. I saw this ad in CL a few days ago :http://maine.craigslist.org/pet/2681108340.html
and told them if they couldn't find the owner to give me a call. (SUCH A SUCKER!) They called last night. With my luck, the darn thing is a goose. (Probably would go over better than another duck.)

It would be happier with another chicken. My chickens tolerate the ducks and vice versa but they are NOT a happy family. They have seperate pens etc. Hopefully someone with chickens will give it a home or maybe it got loose and the owner will claim it.

Now that you have the one, I'll bet you'll want more. Chickens are great...you'll see. Get her some friends!!!

What she said!

And on a side note: My chickens and ducks CAN NOT be in the same pen. I will refer to the cripts and bloods comment above. But on the other hand, I've had chickens and ducks that were fine together. It just depends on the flocks "personality".

The one thing you don't want is a drake trying to mate with a chicken [hen] 2 completely anatomies and the drake can kill the hen. If you take it you'll have to get it a chicken friend.

Thanks all. My friend just emailed me and said that someone that works where it was found is going to bring it home to join their other chickens. Phew! After reading the posts I was really scared that I was going to have to make my poor husband build a new chicken shed/pen! That would not have been well received.......
