Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. We have our first-ever 7 chicks in the brooder - 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Araucanas, 2 Buff Orpingtons and one Light Brahma. They are fabulous! I was able to buy a used A-frame chicken ark, but now that I have it home and cleaned up it looks awfully small to house 7 hens. The floor is approx 6' x 3 feet - with about 4' of roost and 4 spots to nest. The previous owner did not keep food and water inside, but rather in the screened area below. I'm concerned that the girls will be too cramped. Any advice greatly appreciated - I want to do this right. Thanks!

Well, you're right, it *is* awfully small for 7 hens, unless they are free-ranging all day every day and you are in a climate that is mild year-round. Sorry.

You can try it, and see how you like it, partly your results will depend on your particular chickens' personalities and on your personal goals for chicken ownership. But, you may want to think over other options, like getting a used shed to convert to a coop or something.

Good luck, have fun, enjoy your chicks

Thanks so much -- good to have that confirmed! I've found a good deal on a 4' x 6' coop from WindyHill Sheds in PA that could be here in time for their graduation from the brooder and think I'll have to move on that. I'll recycle the Ark to someone w/ fewer ladies.
