Chicken ate a staple!?

[Hens rule]

One of my hens I think ate a staple about this big but not all rusty like this one...

And I am worried this could hurt her from the inside:/ could it? She ate it with a full crop so could this help?
Could the staple hurt her or should she be okay and what should I look for to make sure she's okay and when?
One more question...would she have been able to peck and eat a staple in less than a second because that's how quickly she swallowed it. I'm not 100% sure she did eat it but that's what it looked like to me. Thanks for any help!

Not much you can do except hope for the best. It could pass or get stuck. Lookup hardware disease, even though its not really a disease

Do you know how I would know if it passed or did not or how I would treat her if it doesn't come out?

. I know we used to put magnets in the cattle so any wire they ate wouldn't perforate their innards. Too bad they don't make chicken magnets! I was scooping hay cubes for my horses yesterday when I found a foot of fishing line with a sinker & a hook on it. Not good. Luckily I saw it before I fed it to my horse. Good luck with your chicken. I think your chicken will be fine. Chickens eat some crazy stuff when they get the chance, but most of the time it passes harmlessly. The staple isn't monstrously huge which means a small puncture could heal quickly, and its shape almost guarantees that it won't fully perforate the intestine. I think the biggest threat would be obstruction, but the bowel provides more room than the esophagus, so provided the staple moves through the esophagus without difficulty I think your chicken should be okay

Thanks everyone. I think she is okay! I'll check her in the morning and check under where she slept last night to see if she is pooping normally but I think she is!

That's good you found that fishing hook in your horses hay @rides2far that wouldn't have felt to good to your horse.

My hen Henny seems okay this morning!
I checked the poop under her and it seems normal to me... No blood no staple but her crop was not fully emptied so it may still be in there. Also a lot of them go out in the night eat some food and go back to bed so this may have been what Henny did so the staple did probably pass her crop so far. I'll check her poop when I get a chance but I think she's ok!
