Over the weekend my flock was attacked...two chickens were killed :`( and another got away. However, the one that got away is not acting normal. She seems to be hunched over when she stands up. She eats and drinks and seems to be improving overall but she will not stand up like a normal chicken and when she lays down she will not put her head up. The afternoon after the attack she did lay one egg. I have her separated from the flock but I did put one of her sisters with her to keep her company. Any advice?????

Sorry to hear that. I have had a dog attack mine as well. If she will let you handle her with out a fight I would check her out carefully. Some injuries can't been seen but check everywhere else. I had one that had mussel tissue trauma under a wing that had torn skin from her body. It wasn't bloody but separated. I later found a puncture wound (dog bite) that had become infected. I was told to smell the areas for sign of infection. I cleaned the wounds with a solution of 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 water and flushed with warm water after wards, then keep it clean and keep her isolated while in recovery. When I smelt infection a few days later I applied Vetericyn which kills bacteria in 30 seconds. Good stuff. Had to clean her vent whole daily as she had trauma down there too. I also put her in a warm sits bath in the utility sink to help with the passing of broken egg which appeared a few days later. As a worst case scenario I had to give her injections for 4 days to treat any infection that I could not see. She wasn't much interested in food or water. So she got a special diet of her regular food coated with plain yogurt, some tuna fish, shredded greens, and Vitamin water. When she was ready I put her out to be with the others a few hours a day in a temporary run. Later she was ready to get back with her sisters. About a month later she was back on her roost and at the top of the pecking order! Many thought she wouldn't make it but she did. Rather than being "Roxy" I call her "Rock star". She is my miracle girl. Hope this helps. Best of luck and prayers. With God all things are possible!
