Yesterday I walked out my back door and a coyote was chasing my poor Pickle. She survived the night and got herself into her purch. This morning I noticed between her toes is puffy. It's not bramble, but does this mean it's sprained/broken? Is there anything I can do like keep her in a kennel? She's lost a lot of feathers too. I'm considering a saddle after her puncher wounds heal. She's an OG, high on the peaking order, and my best layer. Any advice would be helpful.

She has puncture wounds? Can you show us pictures of those? They need to be cleaned immediately and thoroughly. Normally I don't advocate the use of hydrogen peroxide but in this case I might, just a one-time use, to flush out any bacteria from the coyote's teeth. Then coat them with a triple antibiotic ointment but be sure it does not contain pain reliever as it is toxic to chickens. An example would be Neosporin Original or its generic equivalent. I am going to tag an Educator to see if she concurs with this. If she or any other Educator advises differently, please do as they say. They will have a little black badge by their name that says Educator.

Is all the missing feathers on the lower back and tail due to the attack? Are the puncture wounds on the lower back? You may want to look her all over for other hidden wounds, and trim feathers near the wounds so they can be cleaned. Saline, chlorhexidene, wound spray, or weak Betadine are all good to clean wounds. Dry them and apply plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment twice daily until healed. The area between the toes does look like a type of mild bumble foot. Is there a scab or cut on the bottom of the foot?

Yes all the missing feathers are from the coyote. He just caught up to her as I got out the door. These pictures are as good as I could get for now. I'll have to do a more detail evaluation when hubby gets home.
Under right wing- doesn't look super deep, gash is about the size of my thumb
Under left wing- probably deeper, gash is about twice as long
Foot- double checked and she does have a small black spot started. 😔

Bumble foot is not an emergency and can be treated with a daily bandage of Betadine and sugar (sugardine dressing) or Prid drawing salve. Apply it to a gauze 2x2 pad and wrap in 1 inch vet wrap strips. Eventually you can try to open the scab and squeeze out the pus or plug inside, and then use a neosporin dressing for a few days. Here is a good video showing a dressing, but just substitute the sugardine or Prid:

Treat her for shock with water containing 1 tsp of sugar per cup, or electrolytes right up to her beak. Once she is able to drink well, then offer food and some cooked egg. Crushing or squeezing is common with a predator attack, so we always are concerned with internal injuries. Let us know how she gets along.

Thank you so much for all the advice!
