Chicken attacked by animal

You can fashion a crop feeding tube out of aquarium tubing from Walmart pet department plus a large 35 or 60 cc regular syringe. The end of the tubing must be burned with a lighter to soften the sharp edges. A local vet could sell you feeding tubes and syringes.

Called a local emergency vet and got a tube and handful of 60ml cath tips.

Thank you for all of your help

Oh, that is good. Hopefully, she will start to get better soon. Good nutrition, fluids, and some probiotics and vitamins should help. Keep us updated on her condition.

She is drinking, about 3 oz today, is that enough?

She was 3lb 2 oz before feeding, right after feeding she was 3lb 5oz, now 6 hours later and a few droppings shes at 3lb 4oz.

She is drinking on her own if I put the water up for her, and the scale is the perfect height an lets me see how much she is drinking.

Also I could not find handfeeding mix around me, is it okay do use baby food consistency food? If so what fruits / veggies / grains are good?

Three ounces is pretty good. I think that a 5 pound bird can take 100-200 ml in a day, so you are doing well.
I haven't tube fed any chickens so far, but Casportpony is very helpful with tube feeding instructions. Here are a couple of her threads:

I followed her threads, it really went well, I couldn't imagine doing it alone though, I thought my girl was going to kill me :)

@casportpony what do you think of something baby food consistency for tube feeding if I cannot get hand feed? veggies / fruit / grains? I did some infant organic oatmeal, egg, and yogurt today to get some in her.

Thank you

AJ

If you happen to have Amazon Prime, you could get some by Friday if you ordered it now. http://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Exact-...2801769&sr=8-1&keywords=kaytee+baby+bird+food

What you have fed so far sounds good until you get the baby bird feed.

Good call I can't believe I didn't think of that!!! I ordered some and as soon as I did...she started eating the mush I was making her for tonight... she still wont touch layer pellets put put puree of carrot and peas and yogurt in front of her and she goes to town.

Just to try and stay balanced I'm going to run some layer pellet through the blender with the carrots and peas, some egg, and some yogurt in the morning, see if she takes to it this well.

How long is the kaytee good for if I don't use it now?

The Exact Formula lasts for a long long time.
It is also good for any sick girl who comes in
for special treatment. I put some in the mash
or just by itself in a little bowl so they will
eat it. It is digestable for them and nutritious.
I always keep some on hand.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. How big is your tube? I did an experiment last night with crumble, water and a stick blender. Was able to get it to pass very easily through a size 30 tube. Will try the 18 later.

Of course Kaytee will work in all tubes, including a size 6 I think.

Fluid intake - I shoot for no less than 10% of their body weight per day. She's about 1400 grams, so that's 140 ml.
